Wednesday, April 28, 2021, saw the return of St. Alban’s Cathedral’s annual golf tournament after last year’s COVID-related cancellation. With the second-largest field in the tournament’s twenty-eight-year history, and beautiful weather all day long, the tournament was a great success. The tournament was held at Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
The tournament, known for years as the Judge Bill Wieland Memorial Golf Tournament, was renamed this year as the Judge Wieland and Joel Swann Memorial Golf Tournament, in memory of Joel Swann, a long-time pillar of the parish and the diocese who was especially dedicated to the golf tournament. Joel’s children and grandchildren — the Swann and McLean families — were present all day long, as were the son, grandson, and great-grandchildren of the late Judge Bill Wieland, who helped establish the parish four decades ago.
Along with raising money, all of which will be donated to charities supported by St. Alban’s, the tournament also reminded St. Alban’s parishioners of the gift given them by their forebears and their calling to be faithful stewards of the legacy of those who built the parish.
