On Saturday, October 19, 2019, a third generation deacon was ordained in Christ’s Holy Church. Mr. Stephen Michael Miller was ordained to the diaconate at St. Matthew’s Church, Weaverville, North Carolina. Deacon Miller’s grandfather, Forrest Ogden Miller was ordained deacon in 1956 in the Episcopal Church and later became a priest. He left the Episcopal Church in 1976 to join what came to be known as the “Continuing Church movement.” Forrest Miller would be consecrated a bishop at the founding of the Anglican Rite Jurisdiction of the Americas (ARJA) in 1981. Deacon Miller’s father, the Rev. Gregory Miller, was ordained a deacon in 1984 and a priest in 1985 in the ARJA.

The Most Reverend Walter H. Grundorf, Bishop of the Eastern United States of the Anglican Province of America, presided at Deacon Miller’s ordination. Deacon Miller’s father, the Rev. Gregory Miller, rector of St. Matthew’s Church, presented his son to the bishop for ordination. The Venerable Erich A. Zwingert was the Master of Ceremonies, assisted by Masters Ben Auten and Flynn Allen as acolytes and Master Caleb Allen as Crucifer. Visiting clergy for the occasion were the Rt. Rev. David Haines and the Rev. Mr. Kevin Fife, both of All Saints Parish, Wilmington, NC, the Very Rev. Nicholas Henderson, St. Patrick’s Church, Brevard, NC, the Rev. William J. Martin, St. Michael & All Angels Church, Arden, NC, the Rev. Paul Rivard, Church of St. George the Martyr, Simpsonville, SC, the Rev. Mr. Thaddeus Osborne, Holy Church Church, Farragut, TN, and the Rev. Mr. Louis K. Linn, All Saints Church, Mills River, NC.

Deacon Miller holds a Master of Divinity from Fuller Seminary, a Master of Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo, as well as Bachelor of Arts in both English and Political Science. He and his wife Jennifer were married in 2012 and have two children, Abigail and Joshua. Deacon Miller will serve as Curate at St. Matthew’s Church, Weaverville.
