The Diocese of Mid-America, Anglican Province of America (APA), met in it’s Tenth Annual Synod on September 6-7, 2019, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, Illinois. Twenty-three clergy, laity, and guests were in attendance. Diocesan business was conducted over the two days. The synod adopted a budget for the fiscal year 2020 and appointed a new diocesan treasurer. The Right Rev. Robert T. Giffin, Ordinary of the diocese, delivered his “State of the Diocese Address.” Special guest to the synod, the Most Rev. Walter H. Grundorf, Presiding Bishop of the APA, presented the synod with the current state of affairs in the national church. Elections and appointments to the various diocesan committees were also accomplished.
On Friday evening, September 6, at 5:00 p.m., Evening Prayer was officiated by the Rev. Ian Dunn, rector of All Saints Church, Prescott, Arizona. Fr. Dunn also served as the homilist and Mr. Richard Watson was the organist. Dinner and a hospitality event followed that evening. On Saturday morning, September 7, the Synod Eucharist was celebrated in Christ the King Chapel by Bishop Grundorf. Bishop Giffin was the preacher and Mr. Watson again served as organist. The Rev. Canon Robert Cheeseman assisted at the altar and Mr. Jaxson Grothaus served as acolyte.
