Sunday, August 4, 2019 was an eventful day at All Saints Parish, Wilmington, North Carolina. The Most. Rev. Walter Grundorf, Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of the Eastern United States, Presiding Bishop, received and blessed the Rev. Mr. Kevin Fife as the first full-time curate for the parish. Also, Bishop Grundorf confirmed Jennifer Breitenbach and received her into full communion with the Diocese. Music for the occasion was provided by Mr. Greg Bell, choirmaster and organist of All Saints, and the parish choir. They were joined by guest trumpeter, Mr. Stephen Luck, and guest singers Frank and Lisa Beaty, and Emma Mahn. A pot-luck luncheon was held immediately following the service. The Rt. Rev. David Haines, rector of the parish Saints, presented Deacon Kevin, his wife Mary-Willis, and son Alban with the “pounding” goods that had been gathered by the parish to welcome the Fife family and help them establish their new home in Wilmington.

For those who are not from the South and unfamiliar with the term “pounding,” it is a collection of a non-perishable food and household items to help the new family become established. Those who contribute donate a pound or equivalent of each item to cover the family’s needs.
