Thomas “Wesley” Bailey, a member of St. Matthew’s Church in Riverview, Florida, recently travelled to St. Petersburg, Russia, for a six-week summer course in Russian language, history, and culture. Wesley was homeschooled throughout his primary and secondary years and began learning Russian the summer before he went to college at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee last fall. After his first semester of Russian, he was permitted to take third-year Russian and has impressed his professors enough to be asked to be a Russian tutor during his sophomore year. While in Russia this summer, he has been placed in the highest level language program available during the special scholastic session. Once Wesley returns to college next semester, he will add Chinese to his language studies. He hopes to teach English in a foreign country next summer (South Korea, China, or Japan most likely).
