On December 9, 2018, the Right Rev. William Perkins, Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of the Eastern United States, made an episcopal visit to St. James of Jerusalem Anglican Church, Sarasota, Florida.  Bishop Perkins was invited by the Rev. David Conway, Vicar, and the mission committee to come and see how the mission was continuing to maintain a traditional Anglican church in the area. The night before the visit, Bishop Perkins was invited to dinner to discuss the progress of the mission.  After the meal, Father Conway took Bp. Perkins and his wife, Lou Anne, to the local Coptic Church, St. Simon the Tanner Coptic Orthodox Church, to observe one of their services.  Fr. Conway has become a good friend of the Coptic priest there and wanted Bp. Perkins to witness one of their worship services. The experience was very interesting and moving. The next day Bp. Perkins preached and celebrated the Holy Eucharist for the congregation.  He encouraged them to continue their efforts to maintain a traditional Anglican presence in the area, to which they responded they would.  After the service, a reception was held, enjoyed by all attending.   The day concluded with a return visit to the Coptic Church where Bp. and Mrs. Perkins were introduced to the Coptic priest in charge of the congregation.  The visit was pleasant and Bp. Perkins found the priest to be a very godly man.
