On September 16, 2018, Holy Spirit Church, Hatfield, Pennsylvania, gathered for the celebration of the consecration of their church building. The church was filled to capacity with present and former members, as well as many guests. The Most Rev’d Walter Grundorf, Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of the Eastern United States, set apart the church building from all secular and profane use. As a church building may not be consecrated if it is encumbered in any way, there was also a ceremonial burning of the mortgage on the church property. Bishop Grundorf was assisted by Holy Spirit’s rector, the Rev’d Robert Tufton, and the Rev’d James Johnson, former curate and present vicar of All Saints Church, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Bishop Grundorf celebrated the Holy Communion for the congregation and preached on the Gospel text of the day (John 2:13-17), reminding the congregation that all are to be ministers of the church in their everyday lives.

After the celebration in the church, all present retired to the dining hall to enjoy a luncheon prepared by the ladies of the parish. One member of the parish commented that it “was a wonderful, up-lifting, and joyful Sunday morning.”
