The women of All Saints Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, gathered for a weekend retreat in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on March 23-24, 2018. The Lenten Retreat, held at a private farmhouse residence near Staunton, Virginia, was a time of fellowship and rest for the women of the parish. This was the first time the parish has organized an overnight retreat for the women. On Saturday afternoon, Dr. Britta Rowe delivered a talk of her scholarship on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and wove throughout her reflections on penance. The Rev. Fr. Dan Malcolm, curate at All Saints, taught on the Church’s sacrament of Penance and walked the retreatants through the scripture and the Lenten theme of “Rend your hearts.” Thirty-four women were present at the retreat. They returned to All Saints on Sunday morning for the Mass of Palm Sunday.
