The Most Rev. Walter H. Grundorf, D.D.
The Most Rev. Walter H. Grundorf, D.D. serves as the Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Province of America and bishop of the Diocese of the Eastern U.S (DEUS). He was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended college in South Carolina and did his Master’s and graduate school work in the mid 1960’s. He was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity Degree in 2005 by the Theological Commission of the Reformed Episcopal Church
He became a member of the traditional Anglican Church movement while in graduate school and was ordained as deacon and priest in 1966. He was elected suffragan bishop of the Diocese of the Eastern United States (Anglican) in1976. He served as rector of St. Michael’s Church in Knoxville, Tennessee from 1967-1976, became rector of St. Paul’s Church, Jackson, Mississippi where he served from 1976-1979. In 1979, he relocated to Orlando, Florida as a missionary bishop establishing the mission Church of St. Albans. St. Alban’s is now one of the largest churches in the Traditional Anglican continuum and serves as the Cathedral Church of the DEUS and the Anglican Province of America (APA).
Bishop Grundorf was elected Diocesan Bishop of DEUS in 1995 and Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Province of America in 1998. The APA has three dioceses in the United States and a number of affiliated Churches around the world. Bishop Grundorf has worked with a number of Bishops of other traditional churches especially the Reformed Episcopal Church with which it shares a formal intercommunion agreement. These two bodies the APA/REC are in a covenant union with the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion and its Archbishop Peter Akinola. This is the largest Anglican Province in the world with 18,000,000 members. Bishop Grundorf also serves as a board member of Anglicans United a service organization dedicated to promoting unity among traditional Anglicans. He is also a board member of the Federation of Anglican Churches in the Americas that Archbishop Gregory Venables of the Anglican Communion Province of the Southern Cone in South America serves as Primatial Patron. Bishop Grundorf has 4 grown sons and 6 grandchildren.
